In Kenya, an estimated 3,000–3,200 children are diagnosed with cancer every year — and only 1 in 5 survives, compared with survival rates of up to 80% in high-income countries. This gap is not medical inevitability. It is delayed diagnosis, low awareness, and cost.
Since 2019, the Kenya Childhood Cancer Program has been closing that gap. Gertrude’s runs one of the country’s few dedicated paediatric oncology services, and the Foundation funds the full course of care — early detection, diagnosis and complete chemotherapy — so treatment, once started, is never cut short.
The programme has raised KES 81.4M+ through the Annual Walk and Golf Tournament, and trained 200+ frontline healthcare workers to spot early warning signs.
