The Kenya Childhood Cancer Program
In Kenya, an estimated 3,000–3,200 children are diagnosed with cancer every year — but only 1 in 5 survives, compared with up to 80% in high-income countries. We fund early detection, diagnosis and complete treatment so no child's chemotherapy is cut short.
Paediatric Heart Surgery Program
Around 10,000 children are born with congenital heart disease in Kenya every year and only about 150 (2%) receive the surgery they need. We fund early detection, life-saving surgery and the follow-up that keeps repairs working.
Telemedicine Program — Phase I
In rural Kenya, a child's location has long determined their chance of survival. Our Telemedicine Program connects six rural facilities across five counties directly to specialist care at Gertrude's Children's Hospital.
Telemedicine Program — Phase II
Building on Phase I's success, our Telemedicine Program is expanding into five more underserved counties — Turkana, Laikipia, Vihiga, Kwale and Makueni.
Mobile Clinic Program
For families in Nairobi's informal settlements, the nearest hospital can be out of reach. Since September 2025, our Mobile Clinic has closed that gap, reaching 12,000+ children with quality healthcare where they live.
Building Capacity in Paediatric Healthcare
A donation doesn't just treat one child — it can train the health worker who treats thousands. We invest in the paediatric healthcare workforce across Eastern, Central and Southern Africa.
Children with Special Needs & Hearing Care Program
Over 1.3 million children in Kenya aged 1–19 live with special needs. We provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and hearing aids through the Gertrude's Paediatric Audiology Centre.
HIV/AIDS Treatment Program
Through the Sunshine Smiles Clinic, we provide comprehensive HIV treatment, care and support to over 2,000 active patients, combining antiretroviral therapy with nutrition support and specialised care for children living with HIV.
Smile Train — Cleft Lip & Palate Repair Program
In partnership with Smile Train International, we provide life-changing cleft lip and palate repair surgery — 1,301 children treated since 2012, around 100 every year.

A child is referred
From the wards, the weekend clinics or a county medical camp - any doctor at Gertrude's can refer.
The family qualifies
A short means assessment confirms the family genuinely cannot pay. No paperwork marathons.
The Foundation pays
We fund the full course - treatment started is never cut short for lack of money.
Outcomes are published
Every program reports its numbers quarterly, drawn from hospital records and audited accounts.
